On November 5, the Canada Council for the Arts announced that dancer, choreographer and educator Tedd Robinson had won the 2014 Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts. Robinson is the artistic director of Ottawa-based company 10 Gates Dancing, and is a sought-after contemporary choreographer and mentor. “Through his artistic vision, choreographies, performances as well as his role as mentor, Tedd Robinson invites Canadians to experience the expressive power of contemporary dance,” says Simon Brault, director and CEO of the Canada Council. “We are delighted to award him with the Walter Carsen Prize for his distinguished career achievements in dance.” The award recognizes the highest level of artistic excellence and distinguished career achievement by Canadian artists in dance, theatre or music.
