Michèle Moss, BEd, MA is a choreographer, dancer and educator. She is currently a tenured Assistant Professor in The School of Creative and Performing Arts/Dance at the University of Calgary. She was born in the UK, raised in Montréal, and moved to Calgary, Alberta for her foundational training in the academe. She is a co-founder of Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, where she served as performer, Associate Artistic Director, School of Decidedly Jazz principal and choreographer from 1984-1999. She enjoys a diverse career in dance from choreographic commissions to international teaching assignments. She served as artistic director for Calgary’s Dancers' Studio West from 2000-2005. She has conducted much ethnographic research, presented on the page and on the stage. Field-sites include such locales as New York City, Kentucky, San Francisco, Durham as well a Italy, Jamaica, Poland, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Sénégal and The Gambia- to name a few. Her most significant field sites are Guinea, (Conakry) West Africa and Cuba.
