The Canada Council for the Arts welcomed two new officers to the Dance Section this year.
Martin Bélanger has been a performer, actor, collaborator, counsellor and choreographer taking part in interdisciplinary projects that range from experimental theatre to contemporary dance. Parallel to his own creations, he collaborated with Jacob Wren, Benoît Lachambre, Carole Nadeau, kondition pluriel, Line Nault, Isabelle Schad, Michael Toppings, Epsilon Lab et Oli Sorenson. In 2004, he founded his own company, Productions Laps. He has been commissioned by several institutions such as Montréal Danse, LADMMI l’école de danse contemporaine, the School of Dance of Ottawa, Dancemakers and by several independent artists. Bélanger has worked in production with PME art and Daniel Léveillé danse.
And Laurie Biderman has worked in the arts and cultural industries for over fifteen years. With a background in film studies, Biderman spent several years working in film and television production and at the Toronto International Film Festival. She moved to the Canadian Television Fund and eventually to Telefilm Canada, where she assumed various roles over her seven years there. She also worked as project leader for National Business Development, managing events and programs to promote the film industry across Canada. An amateur dancer in her youth, Biderman maintained her love of dance spending eight years as a board member for The Dance Current/Dance Media Group.
