The exhibit Corps Rebelles or Rebel Bodies opened at the Musée de la civilisation on March 11. Rebel Bodies features drawings, sketches and photos of influential international and Québecois dance artists, but audiences will be wowed by film footage of such choreographers as Marie Chouinard, France Geoffroy, Margie Gillis, Louise Lecavalier, Daniel Léveillé and Victor Quijada. Film director Jean-Louis Pecci interviewed each artist and features their responses alongside filmed extracts of their work in an installation of living art. The exhibit addresses bodies in their multiplicity as urban, natural, political, social, atypical, virtuoso and multiple. After its Québec City tenure, Rebel Bodies will tour, with stops including the Musée des confluences in Lyon, France in September 2016.
Beginning on March 10 and continuing throughout 2015, the Québec museum hosts weeklong choreographic residencies. Artists to date include Le Fils d’Adrien Danse, Code Universel, Danse K par K, Mikaël Montminy, Geneviève Duong, Annie Gagnon, Andrea De Keijzer, Collectif CRue and Danse Carpe Diem. When the space is not occupied by these creators, it will feature a participatory experience for museum visitors, courtesy of Moment Factory, entitled Danser Joe, based on the celebrated dance work by Jean-Pierre Perreault. Through technology and augmented projections as well as a cast of thirty-two performers, Joe supplements the program as an independent immersive installation.
