Cirque du Soleil’s new Broadway production Paramour opened May 25 in New York. The show is a fusion of acrobatics, dance and song tied together with a Broadway narrative, a love triangle set in the golden age of Hollywood, and is Cirque’s first Broadway show.
French-Canadian artist and designer Jean-François Bouchard is creative director of the production and hired Cirque du Soleil visionaries as well as experienced Broadway professionals to pull together the multiple elements of the show. Paramour enters new artistic territory for the Montréal-based company, which specializes in visually spectacular circus performance.
Bouchard first made a name for himself in Montréal between 1985 and 1995 designing the interiors of bars, restaurants and financial institutions. He joined Cirque du Soleil in 2001 and has held several titles including chief creative content officer and creative guide.
