Dance has a rich and vibrant history and professionals in the industry wish to see the discipline continue to flourish in the future. Dance companies Bouge de là and PPS danse, and the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM)’s dance department in collaboration with dance company Cas Public have teamed up to further encourage the development of professional dance among youth by providing a space to share and deliberate on such themes as creativity, choreography and cultural mediation.
The conference — “Colloque sur la danse dédiée aux jeunes publics” — will take place on September 25 and 26, 2014 at UQÀM and will consist of a series of workshops and talks on the past, present and future of dance with respect to youth and the role young people play in the dance community.
This two-day seminar will unite artists, teachers, presenters and other professionals in hopes of raising awareness on the importance of dance in school curricula.
“With this conference, we aim to better define and identify the future of dance for our youth, here in Québec. Young dancers are vital to the development of Québec’s choreographic landscape. We have assembled an exceptional team of professionals to educate and provide them with the appropriate guidance and advice,” said Ginette Ferland, Bouge de là general manager and organizer for the event.
Young, aspiring dancers will have the chance to learn techniques and approaches appropriate for their age alongside established professionals like choreographer Hélène Blackburn and the dancers of Cas Public, PPS Danse choreographer Pierre-Paul Savoie, and Bouge de là choreographer Hélène Langevin.
