“It’s very daunting to take on. We have a lot of work ahead of us. We haven’t stopped since we stepped on,” said Deborah Ward, president of Ballet Kelowna’s new board of directors. The previous board was suspended when the company decided it would have to take its final bow on March 16th due to dwindling finances. Ballet Kelowna has now announced that it will continue for at least another season. Ward says that if it weren’t for the outpouring of positive support from the city, the company wouldn’t be able to continue. Ballet Kelowna hosted a sold-out benefit concert on April 26 titled Dancing with Friends, raising close to $25,000. Ward also recognizes the need for the company to remodel, insisting that the new board is “not just jumping in and continuing where we left off… we are looking at who we are, what we want to do, and how to move forward.” The company plans to keep the public in the loop with regular updates. Ward is confident that Ballet Kelowna will succeed, saying, “We cannot and will not fail.”
