In January, The National Ballet of Canada (NBoC) welcomed new Executive Director Barry Hughson. Hughson arrived in Toronto after five years with the Boston Ballet, the fourth largest ballet company in the US. A true friend to ballet, Hughson has also been executive director at the Atlanta Ballet, American Repertory Ballet and Complexions Contemporary Ballet following his own performance career at The Washington Ballet.
Hughson replaces Kevin Garland who was executive director with the company from 2002. Artistic Director Karen Kain expressed her appreciation and gratitude for Garland’s eleven years of service. “Kevin’s astute leadership as well as her patience, understanding and passionate belief in the importance of the National Ballet has ensured that company is now flourishing. The whole company thanks her. I look forward with great excitement to working with Barry whose deep knowledge and innate comprehension of this art form will continue to move us forward.”
Hughson met patrons on the opening night of Watch her by Aszure Barton and A Month in the Country by Frederick Ashton, February 26.
