Calgary’s Dancers’ Studio West (DSW) has announced that they will be moving out of their studio theatre space in the new year. After exploring numerous options for partnerships and new sources of funding, DSW has made the decision to refocus their resources given new financial realities. The organization plans to continue to operate their programming remotely by renting rehearsal and performance space elsewhere in the city.
In a statement released to the public last week, DSW’s Artistic Director Davida Monk said “The priority is always on artistic development for Albertan artists, and the new model will enable us to do that even better. Unencumbered by facility management, I’m looking forward to the artistic possibilities and room for growth in the coming years.” Dancers’ Studio West was founded in 1980 by Elaine Bowman and her husband Peter Hoff and has been in its current theatre location in southwest Calgary for over twenty years.
Community members will have an opportunity to pay tribute at an event on December 30 called Saying Goodbye to the Dancers' Studio West Theatre and Celebrating its History. Doors open at 6pm at the Dancers' Studio West Theatre, 2007 – 10 Avenue SW (alley entrance)
