Chan Hon Goh, director of the Vancouver-based Goh Ballet Academy recently signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Ballet of China and the Guangzhou Ballet Company (Guangzhou, China, is Vancouver’s sister city) that will allow their choreographers, dance artists and instructors to engage in educational and cultural exchange, collaborate on productions and co-present works in both Canada and China.
In a press release, Goh (formerly a principal dancer with the National Ballet of Canada) commented on the significance of the partnership: “This expression of mutual support is incredibly significant for the companies and related dance professionals, but also signifies a collaborative arts relationship between Canada and China, which has both cultural and economic benefit.”
The memoranda of understanding between the involved dance companies are supported by both the Canadian and Chinese governments.
