Des arts dehors/Arts Outside is a new program in British Columbia supporting dance in francophone communities. Presented by Made in BC – Dance on Tour and Le conseil culturel et artistique francophone de la Colombie-Britannique, the program brings together BC artists whose works engage audiences in public spaces.
The development program was initiated by Julie Lebel as part of Made in BC – Dance on Tour’s community engagement activities and inspired by Jouer dehors by La danse sur les routes du Québec. In close and generous mentorship with Marie Bernier, project coordinator of La danse sur les routes du Québec, Lebel has brought her dream to life before stepping into a different role in the program as one of the participating artists.
As a choreographer Lebel joins Sarah Gallos Company and Isabelle Kirouac Company for the first cycle of Des arts dehors/Arts Outside.
The program began in December 2015 and runs until September 2016. Des arts dehors/Arts Outside is supported for the next three years by the Canada Council for the Arts through the Roadmap for Canada’s Official Languages.
