One of the National Ballet of Canada’s (NBoC) most admired performers has announced his retirement from the stage. A member of the company for twenty-three years, Aleksandar Antonijevic will dance the title role in Onegin on March 20th and 22nd and his final performances will be in William Forsythe’s the second detail in June.
In a press release, Artistic Director Karen Kain wrote that Antonijevic “… possesses a natural elegance and versatility onstage as well as a great work ethic and generosity toward his partners and colleagues. An artist of great sensitivity and intelligence, I look forward to seeing his future projects unfold as he continues to expand and explore his artistry.”
A photographer of note (see his photo essay Tension to Tranquility in the Nov/Dec 2012 issue of The Dance Current), Antonijevic will continue to pursue his image-making practice. His latest exhibition, Till We Meet Again – A Love Letter, is a tribute to his fellow artists at NBoC. It will be on display at Berenson Fine Art in Toronto from May 1st to 29th.
