Tilting – Resettlement

Dancer/choreographer Caroline Niklas-Gordon’s solo Tilting – Resettlement explores Newfoundland’s Resettlement Program that took place between the 1950s and 1970s. The program forced Newfoundlanders to move in order to centralize the population. Those who refused to leave their homes behind left with their houses in tow. “The stories that became my solo Tilting – Resettlement came out of an exploration of human resilience. The images of floating homes were a metaphor for the instability caused by change and the unsettling reality of life’s shifts…,” says Niklas-Gordon in the May/June 2014 issue of The Dance Current. Niklas-Gordon performed Tilting – Resettlement at the Canada Dance Festival in Ottawa last week.
