Sharing Dance Day 2016

With choreography by Kevin A. Ormsby

Dancers from across the country have been hard at work learning this year’s Sharing Dance Day routine, and they’re just about ready to share the choreography with the masses.

On Friday, June 3, hundreds of dancers of all ages will descend on Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto; outside on Edmonton Street between Graham Avenue and Portage Avenue in Winnipeg; Spadina Crescent East in Saskatoon; and the Plaza at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa (see here for more locations in Calgary, St. John’s and more).

This year, the large-scale piece of dance will feature Afro-Caribbean influences from Toronto artist Kevin A. Ormsby. Live instruction as well as recorded video were made available to teams in select communities to teach all participants the routine.

The video above features last year’s routine with choreography from Apolonia Velasquez and Ofilio Sinbadinho of Gadfly. Now in its third year, Sharing Dance Day’s goal is to motivate Canadians of all ages to participate in healthy, fun and creative dance activities.
