Caroline Torti and Bree Wasylenko, the dynamic duo behind the Toronto-based entertainment agency Collective Elite, bring their emotionally-daring choreography to the screen in this new dancefilm. Featuring Jordan Clark, a fellow So You Think You Can Dance Canada alumni, RUIN follows the psychological collapse of one woman as she loses herself, piece by piece, through each one of her relationships. Set to the song Twice by Little Dragon and directed and shot by James Arthurs and Cam Roden of Penn and Penache, this short dance film uses physically creative partnering and multiple scenes to express the emotional frailty of a woman stripped of her identity.
Reflecting on the process of choreographing with a mood in mind, filming and then finding a specific colour to match, dancer and choreographer Ming-Bo Lam told The Dance Current, “We would shift shades just slightly to see how closely we could pair a visual with the emotional experience.”
