Researching Book of Love

This video captures the research for Book of Love, a new piece of choreography by Kokoro Dance’s Jay Hirabayashi, performed at EDAM Studio Theatre in Vancouver for EDAM’s choreographic series in May, 2015. The work features Barbara Bourget, Billy Marchenski, Molly McDermott and Hirabayashi and reflects on love over a lifetime in two simultaneous duets – one a primal, somewhat aggressive and youthful dance, the other a geriatric yet nonetheless lusty coupling. The finished work will feature music by composer Jeffrey Ryan performed live by the Standing Wave music ensemble, set and costumes by British artist Jonathan Baldock and lighting by Gerald King, and will premiere November, 2015 at the Roundhouse.

Kokoro Dance presents the twentieth annual Wreck Beach Butoh Workshop this week followed by performances on July 4 and 5. Learn more >> thedancecurrent.com/event-listing/wreck-beach-butoh-performance-workshop
