Mikhailovsky Ballet: Swan Lake

By Julye Huggins

Running June 13th through 16th at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, the Mikhailovsky Ballet presents Swan Lake. They are performing Mikhail Messerer’s restore version of Alexander Gorsky and Asaf Messerer’s choreography (based on the original ballet by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov). This particular version was popular in the 1950s when it toured abroad and fortified the international acclaim of Russian ballet. The challenging dual role of Odette/Odile is in the hands of Ekaterina Borchenko and her alternate Irina Kosheleva, with Marat Shemiunov as Prince Siegfried.
