inDANCE: The King's Salon

By Julye Huggins

Tomorrow at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), inDANCE presents The King’s Salon as part of the Maharaja exhibition. According to the gallery’s website, this innovative bharatanatyam choreography by Hari Krishnan “is a celebration of the aesthetics of courtly love that are at the heart of dance in royal South India in the 18th century.”As another complement to the Majaraja exhibition, several performers will also be presenting demonstrations of South Asian dance and music at the AGO until April 3rd. Specifically, members of inDANCE will be offering demonstrations of South Indian court dance on February 21st, March 14th, 18th, 27th, and April 2nd. On February 23rd Hari Krishnan will give a special talk, weaving live performances to images.
