Going Home Star – Truth and Reconciliation

Starting its twelve-city tour in Ottawa on January 28, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s Going Home Star – Truth and Reconciliation, choreographed by Mark Godden with original music composed by Christos Hatzis, was inspired by a story by Joseph Boyden about a young aboriginal woman, her multiple identities in the modern world and the trauma caused by violence against indigenous people. “Sometimes you come to a point in your life,” Godden said last year in a conversation with Kate Stashko for The Dance Current, “where, before you can move forward, you have to go back and rectify something or include something or deal with something you’ve been putting off.” For him, this search for reconciliation is both specific to indigenous peoples and is a common theme for humans and our relationship to the world.
