Dance with Them

Canadians at Dance on Camera Festival

Dance with Them directed by Béatriz Mediavilla is one of five Canadian dance documentaries and films featured at this year’s Dance on Camera Festival running February 12–16 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York City.

Dance with Them is set in a remote corner of rural Québec where the École de Danse Prelv has been run by teacher and choreographer Lynn Vaillancourt for forty-five years. The film follows Vaillancourt and her students – aged four to twenty – through classes and performances, capturing the range of emotions that accompanies young dancers as well as Vaillancourt’s unique approach to pedagagoy.

Other Canadian films at this festival this year include: Love Songs for Robots by Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski, Abismo by Pablo Diconca, Néants by Nellie Carrier and Mortified: The Contender by Jacob Stage, Camilla Singh and Jenn Goodwin.
