Open Ears Festival celebrates the act of listening.
The festival in Kitchener, ON, features national and international sound artists and musicians and includes everything from orchestral music to electroacoustic experimental music, sound installation and performance.
Canadian dance featured throughout the event includes Toronto company Public Recordings with their group work what we are saying; Bill Coleman’s latest duet, Dollhouse; and, featured in the video above, a new collaborative work by dancer Julia Aplin and actor/playwright Anna Chatterton entitled The Yellow Wallpaper.
Open Ears Festival runs May 26 through June 4.
Now gearing up for its twentieth edition, CDF offers an important accounting of the state of the art of dance across the country. With regular “off-year” events and a full-on festival every other year, the festival is dedicated to growing audiences in the Ottawa region and providing a meeting site for dance artists across regional, generational, cultural and disciplinary lines.
