Cornstarch and Other Dilemmas

St-Ambroise Montréal Fringe Festival

Montréal dance students Aliah Schwartz and Chloe Hart describe their new duet Cornstarch and Other Dilemmas as an “exploration of coexistence and the provoking potential of a hairdryer.”

Both are entering their third year of dance programs – Schwartz at Concordia and Hart at École de danse contemporaine de Montréal. Both grew up in Nova Scotia but hardly knew each other before becoming roommates.

They are now best friends, and as their friendship grows deeper and more complex, so does their artistic partnership.

“We have been in the process for almost two years,” says Hart to The Dance Current over email, “which is the longest process I have ever taken part of.” They’ve shared Cornstarch and Other Dilemmas in various student choreography shows and professional work-in-progress platforms. “The tone has changed throughout the various versions. It has grown more complex each time we have presented it.”

Cornstarch and Other Dilemmas officially premieres June 10 at the St-Ambroise Montréal Fringe Festival and runs at various times (see here) until June 19.
