The Dance Current is more than a magazine; it plays an essential role in communication and community. We care about the depth and detail of how dance is covered in media. We are committed to the future of dance in Canada by capturing the range of what is happening now. Our pages and posts serve to bring a sense of connection and conversation across forms, practices and provincial lines.

As we enter our 19th year, we’re proud to be covering the vibrant and diverse Canadian dance scene with rigour and depth. Our team is driven by ongoing enthusiasm and curiosity about new voices, perspectives and developments in the field.
Our print and online content provide the most current and relevant discussions of Canadian issues and artistic practice, artists and events to be found anywhere.
We also produce education partnership projects focussed on dance literacy and critical writing. These projects are another way that we invest in the future dance community we envision – one that is articulate, informed and engaged. Many emerging journalists, arts writers and students from pre-professional dance programs nation-wide have had the opportunity to work with us through programs and internships that provide valuable experiential education and connections in the field.
The Dance Current embraces dance in all its forms and practices, addressing the field with intelligence, expertise and curiosity. As always, our content is quick to digest, concise and visually engaging.
We produce the following:
Bimonthly print magazine by subscription, also available in a digital edition through Kobo
Prolific content-based website with the latest news, reviews, videos, listings and articles about current activities and issues in Canadian dance
Monthly e-newsletter with updates and previews of our content
Dynamic and responsive social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, where we connect with active participants in the global dance community
Education partnerships and special projects through which we cultivate dance literacy and appreciation with audiences, emerging professionals and future writers
Through dance, we celebrate our lived humanity, share our cultures and perspectives, learn about our physical being and enact kinetic possibilities for a better future. The Dance Current traces these actions and movements, providing ongoing evidence of the import and impact of dance on society.
